Amazing Hinoki Forest

Post by Redsonic »

The Bonsai Forest by Masahiko Kimura recently sold for around AUD$20 000

In my limited experience, this would have to be the best "natural" bonsai I have ever seen. I can imagine walking through the trees along the gully with a small stream. The trees on the ridge to the right have been exposed to the wind and are showing the signs of their harsh location. The ground cover is low as the towering forest cuts out the light to the understory.
The pot is just amazing; it both provides a very naturalistic geography for the forest, while at the same time adding its own artistry and aesthetics.

Just amazing!

I think 20000 is quite conservative considering both the actual composition and the artist behind it . I always admired this piece . One that slab in my summer I give it one day........ :shake:

I don't like a lot of his work but this is very nice indeed.

At 20 big ones, you’d want your watering system to work if went go on holidays! :-)

As a lover of forests I find this quite amazing - I imagine some may find the display a bit too ‘tricked up’ but I find the vision and execution fantastic. One day I must find a way to see some of these ‘famous’ pieces in the flesh. Thanks for posting.

interesting way to describe a valley but seems to be all about the pot---the 'frame' overrides the picture

In 2016 I went to Japan on a tour with Bjorn, and I went to Kimura's garden and saw a tree that looked just like this, but this picture seemed different. When I saw this absurd news I couldn't believe Kimura would sell this tree. He wold me that he would never sell his famous valley Hinoki. Turns out he made a replica to sell. It was a dead give away it was only Y1,800,000. That tree was priceless. Dont believe all the garbage you read on the internet.

bunce.
