I like your thread revival choice.

Would the large root coming out the left side cause reverse taper?

I don't trust Bonsai, they are a little shady.

I doubt that root will have any adverse effects.

Both are growing well and healthy. I have just let them run this season to get some thickness in the branches and let the roots grow. Still a way to go! I'll try and post some update pics on the weekend.... ...... after the Saturday market that is - got to have my priorities in order!!

Update on this one. Growing healthy and branch placement set, but needs more time for branch thickness and ramification... Next steps.

The other bougy is not too good as it got attacked by curl grubs which ate not only the roots but right up into the trunk :( not happy. The grubs were in small pockets of the old soil, not in the new free draining mix. Not sure if it's going to pull through and still hasn't pushed any leaves out. Preparing myself for the worst.....

Hi Mat,
The tree is coming along very nicely. With your other tree just leave it mate and see what happens. Over the years I have had some trees that I thought I had lost, just left them and was a happy boy when I saw new shoots appear.
