Hi Mr Bodhidharma , nice to have that info on the flowering , they should make great floal displays when they are all potted up together . I will keep you in mind , but the trunk stay where it is for now .

"The Hacker" has got buckleys of getting his cotton picken hands on it and he paid for it , i just had to do all the hard work . I might have to bribe him with a 75mm layer when they take good and proper .

Well these have been watered regularly and the seem to be drooping every day . I took a closer look and they were well and truly rooted .

. Now i have 6 Mt Fuji cherries to play with , these will most likely get a layer set on them depending on where they sprout next year . Plenty of scope for making more trees on the original trunk also . A good watering with powerfeed and back to the place they grew .

Well the help was here so i decided a slip potting episode was in store

the trunk was still a 2 man lift .The covered branches will either be layered off next season or simply removed .This was the plan for this tree the moment i clapped my eyes on it . By the end of next season it should be well on its way to being a very unique bonsai trainer with a base of 250mm in diameter it stands 1150mm high, the pot is 720 x 460 x 200 giving plenty of room to grow in , now it a 4 man lift .

Out into the sunshine for these now

, the largest layer at 1.4 m high was sent to Melbourne this afternoon along with 2 dozen other trunks . These remaining 4 layers will have new layers set on them along with the main trunk . All have began to bud swell readying for the flowers .

Too right mate.

The main trunk will doubtless be great stock and the rest will be excellent in their own right. If you ever feel they're too much, I'd gladly lessen your work load for ya heh heh heh .


I found it surprisingly difficult to come by a Prunus Serrulata but finally got my hands on one grown from cutting. Already flowering and no graft! Win win win! Then I see this and think to myself, I need to raise my standards a bit haha.

Hi Mo' , mate I searched for years before stumbling across this tree . Rather than hack off branches and style ,I will continue with the layers then have plenty of stock to part with . A good estimate would be another 12 layers this season .

I get inspiration from the little things every day , motivation needs a bit more input from Me . At the end of the day I reap the rewards if i put the footwork in . Well you have what very few desire a Mt Fuji Cherry .

Hi Josh , mate its like having a baby , I'm looking at it constantly . With all the effort gone into collecting and layering it certainly rewarding me this year . I think it may be better to move them under the pergola , just don't know how severe the frost will be .

, these will begin to fade and fall as new ones open and I'm not willing to waste energy on a long floral display . I might just begin to remove the flowers and buds mid week while Karen is at work . Due for another storm Monday/Tuesday so its best to get them ready for the many layers to be set on all the trunks .

I planted cuttings in winter...some of them over 3cm diameter and most of them are coming up...It is a different variety prunus, but should react the same.

Hi Neli , and they recon I'm mad .They are definately decent size cuttings , the root cuttings I planted have began sprout also . Ishould take a few leggy pieces from these and try them out .
