Juwet Syzygium cumini tree, 17 years progress

Post by Andreas »

The progression of the Juwet Syzygium cumini tree over 17 years.
This is the tree after I did not have time to work on it (first three pic.), then a total back cut was necessary, then one year in-between styling him back

After 11 month since the last work I let the tree grow at will, about six month in I took the wire off, since I had to much work on a new Restaurant.
Here the update. Basically the whole process starts all over again, leave cutting wiring bending to position. I over bend the branches since they flip back up, so i take them downwards as far as the cracking of branches permits. Will follow up when done.

Thank you all.
Actually it is low maintenance, but once every 8-10 month you got to work on it hard. I take the wire of last time because they was to thin, I used for the small branches now 2mm, this will not cut in as easy. I will let it stay on for 6-10 month then take it off again and re wire.
When the branches wooden up they stay as they are, however if you let it go out as I have done do to time issues the tend to go up with the new grow.
Here the final result.

This is a fairly epic tree with a few stories to tell.
Question: what is your preferred front?
One of the fabulous things about growing bonsai is as you get old and decrepit your trees get old and beautiful

WOW!!! Love that tree! :tu: The trunk has so much character and it really looks so much like a mature tree. Also love the moss in the fork. You must have the patience of a saint to do that much wiring. :crikey: When you leave the wiring on for for so long does it not cut into the tree too much? It's definitely a labour of love. I'd also be very interested to more progress pics in future.
Cheers,Frank.

Thank you for the comment, i monitors the wire and cut it off when its to tight. It takes quit a while 4-5 month, then the wire comes off. I let it then grow for a while and start all over again. The tree starts shooting out nicely, clipping will be done as long the wire stays on. Then I let him grow for a few month without touching so the branches have time to thicken and recover.
