These were purchased mid last year and a special delivery saw them arrive safely ground growing cuttings planter bag growing cuttingsWhere to plant all these , now with 40 odd plants {Cuttings,Grafted and Layered} that takes a bit of space and I'm out of action for 2 weeks .

I just had a big fire and burnt over 200 unwanted plants , these will be held onto for a little while , give me something different to hack and chop .

Well the medical treatment has helped , the wife said no Bonsai work so I thought i would do a spot of gardening . These ground grown cuttings were transplanted this morning under supervision of course A trim back to the original leaders and removal of the sacrifice branches , These will be selectively trimmed through the growing season and developed as typical Alpineart stock ready for Bonsai pots when dug in the future . A couple of planter bag cuttings were added to make up the numbers in the grow bed .

Now I had better get out there and supervise myself again before the wife gets home

I started off thinking I feel your pain Alpineart. Having a similar problem right now with angry supervision For a man under supervision you have done a heck of a lot of work.
Then I got to the last line! I’m sure she won’t notice all the work you did.
I hope that dog house of yours has carpet n heating think you will be out there a lot.
Looks like we will all be coming to you for our Prunus Mume in the future.

Hi KIRKY, the grow bed was worked over last week because I knew I would have limited use .These were like a walk in the park compared to lifting the big Junipers out . Noah just dug a large Japanese Maple out above the grow and replanted it under my supervision , but I did help water it in . The Redwood stump above the grow bed will have to wait til I'm just a little better .

Karen won't notice because , I will offer to do the washing and hang it out as on going recovery therapy . By the time she gets home she will be plum tuckered out and wont even look . Been at it since day break so I can rest up now .

This has been in the Planning stage for a wee while , originally a cutting taken from the purchased stock I decided to make a sinuous root /raft style group It was set up early Autunm , progress has been slow until recently . I dont think they like the extreme heat up here but if its green its alive .

These were semi defoliated yesterday and I did manage to wire 3 trunks .Pics aren't too good but I couldn't carry them for a clear photo shoot .
Dont know when the rest will get wired but there growing regardless of wire or not .

Mate I would love to have advanced mume like that, absolutely sensational. I don’t think they air layer well otherwise if use my garden trees, stuck working on stick in pots here

Hi TimS , you can try a layer or two , nothing ventured nothing gained . It might take longer but it should work .

I have a Zelcova -Japanese Gray Bark Elm that is taking 2 years to grow enough roots to severe from the host .Still on the host and checked the roots last week , needs another few months possible more , 3 layers actually suffered die back some they were simply cut off .

You can always lash out and buy one of these , trouble is they are a bit too big to post safely .

What kind of height are they? Could definitely make the drive up to you one weekend, but looks like I might even struggle to fit one in boot of the Subaru Outback.
