I'm rapidly becoming a plum enthusiast. I've only got a couple but they're great fun.
This raft was bought from a friend who dug it up in 2015 at the same location as my other plum:

As usual I don't have any early photos, but it was just a log lying sideways with a few roots and shoots coming out from the sides. The first few years was spent just letting the shoots grow as strongly as possible, then I cut back and replaced the leader a few times.
The original log needs to be carved in a pleasing manner so I'm looking for examples to inspire me. The leaves are purple and the flowers are white.

Matt and Graham - I bl@@dy love these! How do I get to SA and Canberra- you guys seem to have a heap of fun and great trees! Good stuff. One day I’ll do some road trips ... it seems forever away in lockdown though! Keep safe everyone.

Re: Plum raft
That is a really interesting plum Matt and I will be interested in how you manage the old trunk. Looking forward to the next update.

Re: Plum raft
These are nice. Great pruning technique Matt. Graham that clump is sweet. Can we get a post when they flower? I have a consistent problem getting plums to flower well.

Re: Plum raft
My plums vary in their enthusiasm to flower. Think it might have something to do with many of them being seedlings and therefore crossbred .

Re: Plum raft
I gave this plum a trim today. There were only a couple of flowers this year but the ramification is improving year by year. I still haven't worked on the original log and I should do this soon as the branches are only going to get in the way as they grow.
