Can't help with an ID on Tim's species but I can add a couple more into the mix. Not bonsai - yet.

Unfortunately P. glandulosa never develops thick trunks, just lots of suckers normally forms a dense shrub but the double flowers are prolific.

Prunus Elvins is also worth growing for the massed flower display. Trunks thicken quickly.

That double flowering P. glandulosa flower is stunning Neil. I have the single in a forest setting alway pleasing to see it in flower. Your right, very slow to thicken to a meagrely 12mm trunk. Still pretty though.
Cheers

I'll chuck another in the mix, not a bonsai but could be very soon.
Hi Watto, does it have a lot of thorns? I have one very similar, with some serious thorns I’m assuming it’s a wild plum? however to date it still hasn’t flowered. If yours has thorns can you advise what treatment you are giving it to induce flowering.
Cheers

Hi Kirky,
All my plums are "wild dug" and mostly they have thorns, some are thorn monsters and some only a few thorns.
I don't do anything to induce flowering, they just do that by themselves. Some are more prolific that others but time seems to be the only factor. I think the older the tree the more flowers.

Thanks Watto, yep understand that they are all wild, perhaps not the right word on my part. This one is just especially wild to the extreme with thorns. Haven’t had it that long only a few years so will give it a few more and see what happens.
Cheers

My sincere appologies that the highest quality of the photo is of my finger and not the flower

I would suggest that's Prunus spinosa Tim, but I need pictures of the leaves to verify.

Thanks Mike, leaves are popping now so I might post a photo in a few weeks once they are fully out. Spinosa seems a likely option just on how common they are
