I noticed today that one of my figs has dropped all its leaves, I last look at it two days ago and it didn't seem to have any problems, it has been raining constantly in Sydney for the last 2 weeks so i haven't been checking on them much.
I repotted it in october or november, but the mix is a little fine, I am thinking that it may be holding to much water?
Any thought or Advice would be much appreciated.
Cheers
Matt

Re: Fig dropping all its leaves
In my experience a wet mix will show up as branches dying back and then the trunk rotting if left unattended. It looks like it is shooting back, did it just get a cold snap ?

Sydney and the Central Coast got hail yesterday afternoon, looks a bit like that may have stripped your trees.

Re: Fig dropping all its leaves
It doesn't look like the tree is to wet to me, and all the growing tips are still green, we didn't get hail here yesterday where I am.
but we did get very heavy wind driving rain could that have possibly weakened the leaves?
it has gotten colder here in Sydney but it hasn't gone below 11 degrees, I wouldn't have thought that would be cold enough to damage a fig?
Cheers

I believe you don't need to worry too much about figs untill the temps drop below zero.

Benji figs are very prone to leaf drop in sudden temp changes and/or if too wet.
Keep it dryish and warmish and it will come back quickly...ish

Hi Matty,
Figs really like a very open mix. I purchase a bag of good quality Orchid mix and mix it 50/50 with my bonsai mix.
Regards Ray
