Willow leaf fig

Post by alpineart »

This is the latest edition that has been a long time coming
SANY0023.JPG
. I have tried to source one of these for quite some time
SANY0025.JPG
. Thanks to Bougy Fan , i now have a ripper trainer to play with . Knowing very little of these i have altered a custom made rock and adapted the base to the rock or vice versa .
SANY0026.JPG
Either way its a good blend of colour and root / rock texture , shape and movement .
SANY0028.JPG
The trunk had 2 low branches which i have wired , eventually it will end up as a twin trunk . I have trimmed it back and basically wired the trunks for now .
SANY0032.JPG
I will have to see how well they perform down here , 1800 klms from home , will no doubt slow it down a little for a short period . Like anything else around here ,if it grows it grows , if i kill it , i have to learn something from it .

Cheers Alpineart.

Hi Barry1 , plenty of finer wiring to be done but i certainly like it . It can sit in this pot for a year then onto a slab for its lifetime journey .Whipped it inside tonight as we have a frost on the cards , can't risk it yet .

Hi Mathew , mate i have lost my fair share of Figs up here . This and most of the other will hibernate inside in Winter .Been chasing one for years , after seeing yours i just had to get one . Imight have to seal the pergola up for these delicate species . even dragged the Bougy in , the frost knocked that for 5 and almost killed it .

I gave this another trim and wire

It has been watered only over the last 12 months and neglected like the rest of my figs . I can see a couple of new designs in here if i take the time to work it over hard , time will tell .

Hi Fiveoffive , it has progressed nicely over the last 12 months , considering theneglect it has recieved . It did loose all its leaves after a fert of Rustica , thought i kill the little tacker .

Hi kc , mate i was thinking along those lines hence the wire retraint , then i had another thought of a Twin Trunk or Father - Son setting a layer above the roots and below the first branch.

This is the layer that I opted to take from the apex

, been independent for around 18 months it is in need of a trim wire and repot .
