So here is my first Ficus, it's held up to the winter well and is happily being a Ficus.
I did have to remove a heap of old wire that was dug into the trunk and branches, got most of it but not all.
Absolutely no idea on what direction to take forward with it yet but I haven't given it the same level of thought as others for the moment.

The only photo i have of one of my figs. This was a cutting from a buddha belly fig, maybe a of couple years old.
This was a practice/experimental tree. I grew it over the crystal (which glows in the dark) and then glued the crystal to the statue and placed underground again.

This may not ever become anything good but its a fun tree to play around with.

I finally bought my first ever Fig at an exhibition this past weekend. The container it was in was small and it had circling roots, so I decided to get it into a bigger pot straight away and then let it grow.
For once it was easy to get the roots apart with a minimum of fuss, I was able to untangle them all and spread them out radially, with only one or two really long circling roots having a small trim. Quite a good even spread of roots all around.
I imagine that the side branch will serve as a good sacrifice branch but I find the way it frames the main trunk pleasing.

Click for big little ruby. I think this is the back actually, will post a better photo from the front with a plain background after work

As promised, click for big. Today I discovered a new leaf bud at the top of the central trunk :)

This is my white fig. Picked it up from the ausbonsai sale this year. Picture is from only a week or two after I got it. Don't know much about white figs but it was a bargain price so I couldn't go wrong :tu: it's still going along strong.

My first post.

Figs are my favourite bonsai material, so forgiving. This tiger bark fig was inherited from my father, and I'm guessing its about 30 years old. Unfortunaley it was let go for a number of years while i was offshore and grew to about four foot tall in my absence, picked up a few nasty wire marks, and grew out of its pot. Last few years i've tried to get it back into bonsai shape, having cut it back severely a couple of years ago and planted it into a larger temporary home. This year i am planning on letting it grow wild till about late December then to a cut back and total leaf removal.

A few pics taken early Nov 2017

Cheers

Shane

Liking the look of your fig Shanedudley, those wire marks will grow out and you can continue on your merry way. Congrats on your first post, look forward to seeing a few more!

This is my port Jackson gig that I have been developing for a year or so. Aiming for a banyan style shogun size in the future.

Hi Ray,

Nice figs, just curious, when you say grown from a stick in a pot, does that mean a cutting? And did you use air layering or just cut and plant?
It’s all about the new experience!
