Ficus Toll road saved

Post by Andreas »

About a year ago they started a MRT project in South Jakarta, I passed the toll road and watched that they where cutting trees and an digger started ripping the ground. turned off the toll and went for the opportunity. This tree is going to be a bonsai and i asked them to cut it down to the required size. the next morning I arrived on time to get him out the ground together with some Bougenvil roots. Here now the progression. I planted the tree after cutting the roots to the size of the plastic bucked shaded him and waited. after 8 month now i defoliated the tree and only bend the new branches. The trunk itself I cut with a "Terrier drill bit" where the old branches have been. I placed rubber around the branches, so the wire does not cut in, and bended them down.

After carving the desired structure of the ex branch cutting sulphuric acid was applied. New leaves are shooting plentiful after one week

Hi Andreas , I like to see material saved from mans devastation after all he creates havoc everywhere . I will watch with interest to see where you take this one . How did the terrier manage the sap , being a resinous tree and all :?:

Cheers . Alpineart

Thank you for comments! The "terrier" worked fine, however you need to clean him in-between cuts. Stay tuned for more to come on this and other trees.

thank you Ken, my vision is that one is able to see the top dead wood, however I just bend the main branches down at present in order to get thicker branches. At a later stage I will wire the individual branches more downwards the brown ring should be just covered.

Really like the way your carving has settled in over the last 12 months or so... Looks good!
Will be interested to see how this develops styling wise, please keep posting your progress.

I bend all branches again, as you seen before they will spring back quit a lot, this time I am aiming to get new branches growing upwards from the main branches, It looks a bit odd but I got some experiences with the way I am handling the way of bending now, we see in a few month how it goes.

Risky but you could even split the base trunk in the future to widen it even more. but not really worth doing, looks good way it is.
