Post by Bonsai_creations »

I'd try it. I started one a couple of weeks ago, as long as it's in a warm protected spot you shouldn't have too much trouble in your area. (You are still on the Fraser coast, aren't you?)

Yes still same area, I normally like to leave some leafs on the cuttings,
Thanx Mel, I know only way is to wait and see, but always nice to ask if others have done it.
They been sitting in water for a week now,no roots showing yet. I might out and put some gum over the top cuts to be sure they dont dry out.

he Mel did yours have leafs left on,or did u just have stems...

I've never tried to get roots on a fig by leaving it in water.... but this one I just chopped it off cleanly, and wired it into a pot with some large scoria around it. (So it wouldn't rot.)

Good stuff,
yeah i have had good success with leaving in water till the white roots start then carefully pot them up. Never tried them with scoria ,do u just water daily with plain water or add a bit of fert..

Just water every couple of days, no fertiliser until I shift it to proper mix, or at least til I see a lot of roots. (I've never tried with scoria either...am just winging it.)

Last year I just threw some fig cuttings into an airtight plastic container with some damp sphagnum and most of the pieces grew roots...Kept in a shaded part of the greenhouse. Opened it up in Spring....

It's my first time seeing this thread, so I'm a bit late to the party, but did these end up getting any roots? I think maybe winter isn't really the right weather. They really need good light, warmth and humidity.
That being said, you are in Queensland.
