Hi all

The base of my ficas is covered in stones which makes it quite hard to feel the soil (gumtree buy). This will change when I repot in the warmer months but for now would using the feel of the moss on top of the stones be a good indicator of when to water?

If you think you can judge the moisture in the soil from the moss above it will be fine. Personally I don't think it will be a good method.
If you can move some of the stones to get access to the potting mix that would be better. If the stones are glued on like many are take them off so you can water and monitor the mix properly.
You could also try a wooden skewer poked through the stones into the mix. Leave it there and pull it out occasionally to check how damp the skewer is. That will give a more accurate look at the soil moisture.
