Watering Ficus

Hi all

The base of my ficas is covered in stones which makes it quite hard to feel the soil (gumtree buy). This will change when I repot in the warmer months but for now would using the feel of the moss on top of the stones be a good indicator of when to water?

thank you :)

If you think you can judge the moisture in the soil from the moss above it will be fine. Personally I don't think it will be a good method.
If you can move some of the stones to get access to the potting mix that would be better. If the stones are glued on like many are :shake: take them off so you can water and monitor the mix properly.
You could also try a wooden skewer poked through the stones into the mix. Leave it there and pull it out occasionally to check how damp the skewer is. That will give a more accurate look at the soil moisture.
