Monkey Pod Tree

Post by Ryceman3 »

I’m currently taking a Spring break with the fam and we’ve been doing a bit of travel around Hawaii... well, specifically Oahu currently but will be off to Kauai in a few days or so. I haven’t, and don’t really intend to seek out anything specifically bonsai while on this holiday, but just as an aside I have seen these “Monkey Pod” trees in abundance and as specimen/garden trees they are seriously cool to look at. I have asked a few locals and it seems they’re not Hawaiian natives but from Central/South America... Brazilian Rainforest Tree I know can be used to make bonsai, is this different?
In any case - bonsai or not these are pretty awesome viewing so I thought I’d post a pic.

They are magnificent, aren't they? I believe they're some form of Albizia, and when I saw them I had to go out and buy some. :D
