its all experiments with me at the moment ken ;) :) i rekon they will grow stronger in a contained, moist, warm environment. (we have just hit our cold snap here, in the last couple nights its dropped from 22 to 18 at night.... (gets quite chilli just before the sun comes up!!) but nothing compared to southern conditions im sure!! :?
all learning :)

The fish tank will act like a terrarium, keeping soil moist and humidity higher - great for ficus. I have a terrarium I keep in my science lab at school. Come back after 6 weeks holidays at Christmas, soil is still damp and plants are growing nicely on neglect. I only have an aphalandra, philodendron, ferns and ficus pumila in there, but they thrive. Only upkeep is cleaning the algae off the sides of the tank from time to time

Ant, up here we think we will be singing soprano if it drops below 20! A few years ago we had the coldest day on record. It only got to 11 degrees that day. We sat under a blanket in front of the heater all day, and thought we would die every time we had to go to the bathroom!

You have to remember our houses are built to be cool - which means during winter also. We may have only 6 weeks of winter and 20 weeks of stinking hot weather, so it makes sense I guess. :D :D
