Hi, These are some of my uncle's Firethorns. I love the red colour and his root-wrapping techniques.

There is a lot of fire thorn on the side of the road down here, i'm going to get some this year and try that wrapping technique.
Looks great, the first one even looks some what ancient.

Great material.

I notice one of the trees (Pic no7) has mixed colours of red and yellow. I am a fan all of the firethorns. This is a cultivar that I saw in France but was unaware that it could be found in Oz. This material has special sentimental value for me as I had a special holiday there.

Do you know if it available commercially in Australia and where? Do you know the cultivar name?

I would be most thankful for assistance.

Hi Dannis,
Both my uncle and I are ignorant about what cultivar it is besides knowing it is a firethorn. However, if you would like some seeds/fruits from this tree, PM me your mail box address and I'll send a few to you using my company's surplus prepaid envelop for no charge.

Just remember that seeds only contain half the genetic material from this plant and half from another, so there will be no guarantees that offspring will have the same colours of fruit. Only cuttings will guarantee the clones be the same as the parent plant.

you would not be able to buy either, as firethorn is on the noctious weed list.
the best bet is cuttings as said by glenda or go for a drive and dig one.

i have seen some rather large and some not so big ones for sale at bonsai nurseries? it makes you wonder if they care about the weeds lists as i have also seen celtis in nurseries for sale too and they are another on the list.

the biggest pyra i have seen for sale was at bonsai northside with a trunk around 10cm across, was about 80cm tall and 80cm wide at the foliage, was rather expensive though, upwards of $500+ i think.
