In spite of the UFO incident, I like the addition to the base - visually it gives the composition more balance too. well done with the reconstruct - it doesn't look easy to wrangle, but worth the effort, and the new additions in time will only improve the composition. Thanks for sharing the progress  :tu:

Your photos are OK, and you are a fine Imagineer. I particularly like the way the roots of the top tree blend seamlessly into the vertical furrows - they all look like they just grew there, which is the idea of it for me. Keep off the damn roof!

Hi cre8ivbonsai , it certainly needed a fix up and the extra width and depth does make for a better configuration . It wasn't easy to repair as the glue and render needed to be applied to a dry surface over several days, keeping the figs watered made for a challenge and allowing the coatings to cure at the same time .

Hi GavinG, the new camera isn't the problem , its still the operator .Mister crows methods have been tried but the lighting wasn't working .I put the Villa Board up on the roof to shade the sun from the photography session and purposefully left the ladder there . Mister or Misses no-one took it away and i forgot the sheet was up there . The wind came up and the rest is history . Bloody lucky it didn't hit Noah or Bear as they were playing next to it when the wind hit .

The rock was purpose made for the roots to make it look like they grew there from day one , All the figs have roots in the tray now so it will power on over the next couple of growing seasons and should fill out to become a very nice combined Ishitsuki .

Cheers Guys . Alpine

Hi Fiveoffive , when it puts out a new set of leaves it should be on the home run .This is the only piece that has been nurtured over the last 18 months , i have my work cut out pulling everything back into line around here .I think a lot of material will just sit idle for some years , got to get me sorted first .

I finally managed to get this into its new home . Not content with the home made tray I have decided to pot the ishitsuki into this 700mm oval pot .

It looks like it is going to have good growth with plenty of new shoots on all the trunks .

Hi Guys , my wifes sentiments exactly , dont you just hate it when their right  .This pot was purchased for the original plan but was used for other trunks as with the smaller base of the rock it looked a bit over kill .

Hi Guys , I was eyeballing it last night and contemplating ripping it apart for a redesigning /reconstructing excercise .I'm getting to old and the rock/pot combo is getting too heavy to move around even on a trolley .I would have to expect some damage to the roots as they are well and truly clasped to the render , {jack hammer job} , but in the long run it would be easier on the body .

Cheers . Alpine

Noooo! :crybye:

Alpine, this is such a unique expression of bonsai, and was one of the first compositions that gave me inspiration on this site when I first joined :worship: and have enjoyed seeing the development since :tu:

Of course a bloke's gotta do what a bloke's gotta do, and restyling and redevelopment of trees are all part of 'doing bonsai', especially when they get too big to handle. Good luck however you proceed ... :fc:

I went back and found a couple of your links to this composition to fill in the back story:
