Time for a root prune now this is as close as you can get to the care taken to root pruning a 25kg Ishitsuki.

Hi MattA , Certainly looks different laying down , i wonder if it should be called a horizontal landscape , don't know what the Japanese term for that is , maybe Penjing , either way is progressing nicely .

Hi Shannon , i look a lot better now the majority of the thick moss pads have bee removed and the spores have finally taken to the surface itself . One good day in the hot sun will kill the new moss so i will probably keep it inside for the majority of its life from here on , outing only for some natural light and rain from time to time . Its has spent the last few months inside and has done well even with un-natural heating , just a simple spray with a water bottle from time to time .

Nice work mate you certainly can't be accused of not being innovative ...did you by chance do a step by step of the making of the rock :?:

Hi Barry, mate i did it over a week so i wasn't bothered with picks as there was way too much involved .I would need 100 pics to show a step by step procedure to the construction side of the rock .

Hi Bodhi , mate i remember all to well the 50 odd hours spent making the rock and planting the first trunks on it for the 2010 Ausbonsai Native Comp . It has changed and will continue to change until i have the desired finished landscape originally planned . Progress is slow but it is Bonsai after all .

Hi Steve , thanks for the compliment . I try not to sit idle for too long or moss will grow on me . Have plenty of plans just not enough motivation at the moment , but time is something that we all seem to need more of to get a few things done . been flat out digging and replanting so designing has taken a back seat for a little while . I hope to make a few more original works , just a little out of the ordinary .

Cheers Guys Alpine

After several months of preparation for the Canberra Bicentennial Comp i had to withdraw the ishitsuki due to a direct hit from a UFO "unsecured flying object" .A sheet of villa board that was left on the roof by a negligent Tradie namely me  ,was picked up by a strong gust of wind and slammed into the side of the composition taking the lower fused trunk out , the side of the rock and holed the tray .

After 2 weeks of reconstruction this is the new look .

P4120032.JPG

The new lower fig is a main branch cutting taken from the top tree.

I haven't had any success locating a suitable replacement or be it i have but all 5 purchased/sent were damaged by Aussie Post having the apexes smashed out of them  . This has been defoliated again and will hopefully recover before Winter sets in then it will be bought inside as a feature pot plant  .

I have extended the rock at the base for more stability and a larger tray has been made to accommodate the larger base . This was finished with the new look landscape yesterday after curing of the repairs and render . I'm still a lousy photographer but thats O.K .
