Tree identification please.

I don't know why but I have a feeling this might be a Aus native. I hope so because then I will get a ID here. This is most beautiful flowers and will make a stunning bonsai. Can anybody help with this please.....

Looks like a Leptospermum, could be Aphrodite or Rhiannen both from the Bywong nursery.

Definitely a Leptospermum cultivar.
The flowers do look like Aphrodite but it is only supposed to grow 2to 2.5 m tall. This one looks quite a bit bigger? - unless they grow much bigger over the ditch?
There are a few other hybrids and selections with similar pink flowers but not sure of all the names so could be one of those.

That was easy. Thanks guys. There is countless varieties of them. This one looks like Leptospermum Pageant. Its 3m plus in height and has some great places to Air layer.....
Anybody know if they layer well?

My mentor is mad about Lepto's & I asked the same question recently. Some layer with ease, others not so, the only way to find out is to try. Good luck & let us know, I still haven't done any yet.

These Lepto cultivars are propagated by the wholesalers from cuttings, usually in thousands. In my experience if a plant can grow from cuttings they will layer quite easily.

Thanks for that Shubui. That's comforting news. A bit late for a layer now hey? Or maybe put it on now and remove next spring ?

I'd still be trying now. I think there's every chance you could have good roots before the end of summer but if not just leave it in place until next spring. It can depend a lot on how healthy the tree is and how old the wood where you are layering as well as weather and technique.
I have removed a few layers with very few roots and am amazed at how little they can survive on but if in doubt just leave it for a bit longer.

Mmmm I think i'll give it a go now. All I have to loose is a bit of time. The tree is in good condition and growing well. The area i'm thinking to put the layer is about 3inch in diameter. That's not to thick hey?
I'll put a see through container filled with bonsai soil around and do the layer as per Ray Ms instructions......
