[ID] native (?) with bright orange berries

Post by Raymond B »

Hi guys, would someone happen to know what this tree is? We've moved into our new house and we're probably going to chop it down, but we're interested in what it is. Photos below, thanks in advance.

Hello Raymond,

Looks like a Pittosporum undulatum, but not 100% on the ID.
See what others think as well.

Thanks Kevin. I was thinking maybe Auranticarpa rhombifolia which apparently used to be Pittosporum. But I'm not sure of the difference.
Thanks

Definitely Auranticarpa rhombifolia. The fruits should split revealing shiny black seeds. Seeds apparently germinate readily. I think I've collected seed before but had no luck. I have a couple of young plants though. They seem hardy enough. They seem to like a richer medium and plenty of water. They get interesting bark early.

I haven't done much work on mine, but new growth tends to be vertical and straight so you would need to wire (not sure how they would handle it) or clip and grow regularly for movement.
