Please ID tree

Post by M2K »

Hello all first time post.

I'd like to know if anyone can identify this try I have go. I grabbed it from the markdown section in Mitre 10 for $4 and thought it might have some potential. Just gotta figure out what exactly it is that I had bought.

I don’t know, but the round head of flowers at the end of the branch makes me want to say Rhododendron.

It's one of those bougainvillea that flowers mostly on the ends. Smarty pants is the variety, I think. Definitely bougie

Yes Mel is right - it should be thorn-less too. All bougies only flower on the new growth but the bracts in these are smaller and more condensed.

Rats! I was thinking this too but my picture quality wasn’t good enough to see the flowers individually. Also no scale in the image.

Thanks for the replies. Yes it is thornless which is what made me think it wasnt a bougainvillea.
