Deciduous ID

Post by si90 »

I've recently dug up a few self sown seedlings from underneath a tree on the side of the road. Initially I thought it was a type of maple but I'm not so sure now as the leaves are alternate and there is no sign of keys on the parent tree or the ground around it.

The first few leaves to come out are almost oval but look more maple like as more leaves come out. The topsides are dark green but the undersides are soft felt like and pure white.

Anyone got any ideas on a what this coulf be?ImageImageImageImageImageImageImage

Appears to be White Poplar Populus albaleaves are variable and maple like with three to five lobes. White with hairs when young with tops green and white underneath when mature. Grows to around 30 metres.

That looks about right to me, thanks! We'll see how it goes for bonsai now. Seems quite attractive and vigorous.
