Hi guys,

I was out and about walking through the bush and i came along this tree/shrub. There weren't many around the area i could see.

Anyone know what species this is?

The seed capsules indicate Melaleuca I think. Not sure which species are native to Canberra area.

Just checked plantnet database and can only see one Mel in the area - Melaleuca parvistaminea. Leaves look similar to your photo so likely that's the one.

Im going to see if i can grow some from seed. See how i go i guess.

can be mistaken for M. ericifolia which differs in having a definite suckering habit and corky-papery bark and a shorter and wider flower. M. parvistaminea has hard bark, should have flowers about 3x1cm and flowers June-July, so should be showing flowers now. Ericifolia flowers Sept-Nov.

that has completely confused me now. Lol im now 50 50 on either.

I agree with Shibui. Melaleuca parvistaminea.
