[GUIDE] Plant Identification

Post by Jamie »

Hi people,

this is just a little guide on how to describe leaves when trying to explain for identification purposes. Identifying trees is not a simple process to get an accurate answer so the more information you can give the easier it will be for those that are trying to help, below are some pictures and guides of what can help. These are basic sketches but can be a world of difference when describing something because a lot of the time an explanation can throw some one of the right path.

Leaf shapes and arrangements can narrow the field down, along with colour and feel, being as acurrate as possible with these things can be a great help.

Also the tree in natures natural shapes, the picture below is by no means a be all to end all of tree shapes as we know there are quite alot, If the tree in question is to be collected than more than likely a mature specimen would be close by.

Bark is another key point that can help in a positive ID so describing that as best as possible with a clear picture is the way to go.

even with what I am putting up here is general points, It is key to make sure your pictures are clear having a blurry picture not only is frustrating but makes identification nearly impossible. Please help the people that are trying to help you.
