Shimpaku 4 Geelong

Post by anttal63 »

I thought best to start a fresh thread so as to track the future of this tree. Sits at 190mm tall, when it pops, a new apex will be built off the top back branch which will create more movement and compression. Finishing it at 170mm tall.

Not a bad little tree Ant, is this one of the Shimpakus that were twisted and wired as inspired by Joes trip to Japan a few years ago?

Cheers,
Mojo

gday champ,

hows the movement in the lowest part of the trunk? it looks a little straight, maybe it has movement the otherway, I have seen you compress some trees before, you gonna go anymore lower down the trunk to mimic the movement in the top? I know it is the hardest section to do as it is usually the thickest and set the hardest. I take it you plan to shari this though? maybe in a hidden section you can get into the heartwood to make movement without smashing the cambium to much that it causes probs?

Hey pal how are ya,
Yeah it is a little straighter than i would like but by the same token its not bad either. The top i hope to get a better marriage in future when i chop back to a new leader and change how it moves. The bottom section is not hard because it's set or too thick, contrary its just hard cause you got nothing to hold on to. The distanceis only a few inches if that. Shari will be done in future also so this will allow for a little more jig and maybe even some optical fraud. Thanks for your keen observation and feed back, much appreciated ! :tu:

Nice tree. I particularly like the trunk movement. It'll look even nicer as the pads fill in.

This tree has come up a treat. I would suggest its nearly time to consider a pot that will really highlight a great tree that this has become.

Very cool Ant.
One of the fabulous things about growing bonsai is as you get old and decrepit your trees get old and beautiful
