fig off Mojo

Post by Matthew »

A port Jackson fig I got off Mojo several years ago. Cant remember how big it was when I got it but just out of tube stock I think? it has spent all its life in a large garden pot till a few weeks ago. This tree had a large sacrifice branch that reached 5 feet tall at the back of the tree b4 I cut it off this year. It added SIGNIFICANTLY to the trunk base and im growing several other species this way atm. the tree has not been trunked chopped for taper, naturally formed by that branch. I need to cut off more of that heavy chunk root front left but that can wait another year, even though ive worked the roots several times I still had to remove 70% to get it into this shohin pot. tree stands about as tall as a aluminium can (well in shohin size) and almost 1-2 height ratio :) The branching is young but in the right spots and now that sacrifice is gone energy will be diverted. I have several other figs and tridents this way hopefully with simular outcomes. :fc:

that has a very nicely tapered trunk and will develop into a beautiful tree.

Greetings,
Should the heading be a little less challenging?
I would suggest " Port Jackson Fig from Mojo"
I would not wish to be "fig offed".
Happy bonsai,
Bruce.

Just a suggestion, but the photo entitled "other side' shows this angle's potential as a new front. It shows off the best side of the nebari, and the branching looks good from this angle also. There is the drawback of the large wound but in a ficus this should heal quite quickly :2c: Beautiful little tree!

Hi Matt,
thanks for posting this little guy, I like seeing what other people do with trees I started, especially the ones sold as raw material. To see that they have been looked after and developed is even more pleasing! If it was one of the bare rooted figs that you bought off me, it was maybe 1" or perhaps a little bigger in diameter, I should have photos on one of my hard drives from when they were sold.

Cheers,
Mojo

P.S. "fig off Mojo" is hilarious! I don't mind a bit, it reminds me of this P.M. I received once :o ;)

It wasent me that sent you that pm  Thanks for the positive feed back guys. I do agree that a turn to the side abit might be the new front as the nebari is defiantly stronger and the taper more obvious. ill see how it goes for next summer and make my mind up. Mojo if you have a pic of its early days please post I have the other one I got off you in a bonsai pot too if you want me to share :) as for the sacrifice wound I have no issues with that not healing in a couple of seasons. this guy is strong on its roots!
