Mini Landscapes

Post by mudlarkpottery »

I've not long got back from our monthly meeting, We had a wonderful demonstration of setting up a mini landscape (he doesn't like to call his work bonsai).
Linh is a garden designer from Sydney and here are a couple of photos to show you what he did.

I have progression photos of his demo if anyone is interested and his email address if you want to contact him. Linh is happy to give demonstrations to any interested group. When I have time, I'll write up an account of Linh's demonstration and, later,an interview with him.
Penny.

Thanks Penny!
Where are your meetings held?
Are the rocks that Linh uses one piece or are they smaller pieces glued together?
Regards,
Steven

I'm sure the bottom pic is probably 26 rocks put together with Gorilla Glue.
[Sorry, sometimes I simply can't help myself]

I like what he has done with the dark rock - looks great.

Hi Penny,

I seem to recall something :) Is his full name Pham Bao Khanh Linh? Where Pham is the surname?

Best regards.

I don't know his full name, he was introduced to us as Linh. We meet in a local Girl Guides' hall hence the royal photo.
The rocks are imported from China - the dark rock (two pieces glued together) from a friend of his. The lighter rocks are from Bonsai South nursery and the setting is comprised of three separate "islands" and small pieces are glued together.
I have tried several times to post this with photos and i keep getting an error message so I'll try posting the photos next. I getting sick of typing this over and over.

Hi Penny,

Thank you for that :)

For long posts, I usually type them outside, save them to a file. And copy and paste them in.

In case the connection drops or power out, we will not lose it.

Best regards.

Wonderful. I love how the mini landscapes fits in with the whole bonsai/saikei picture. It is all a bit of fantasy and is fun!

Has anyone had a look at Phan Van Lit's "Mountains in the Sea"? Fantastic ... puts the whole philosophy of rocks and plants together to form the landscape. An enjoyable read. :P

Hi Penny,

Thank you for the info -- I have heard of him from a Vietnamese website.

Hi Andrew,

I have the book you mentioned. As far as I can ascertain, that is the only
book in English by a Vietnamese-descend author about the art as separate
tradition -- Hòn Non Bộ.

Best regards.

Hi Daviet.
I didn't do the translation. Linh sent it to me as is. I'll post more as it becomes available. I'll also post the interview and a description of his demonstration with, of course, more photos.
Penny.
