shohin progressions

Post by izzykay »

Just a few progressions of my less than ordinary tress.

This is 1 of 5 leptospermum I bought for a pricey sum of $3.00 at the start of spring
the first pic is after being cut back and repotted, the second is from todays shenanigans and the third a crude virt.
stands 22 cm high
firststylelepo.jpg
This is the second and looks better when the trunk isn't soaking wet. Trying to figure out what pot might suit it. 10cm high

And lastly for today a mel nana I am just about ready to give up on. Had a change of direction at the start of spring, possibly with some good growth,
wire and suitable pot it might be worth spending more time on, any suggestions are welcome. 22cm high

Any comments welcome even if its on the harsher side.

With the last pic, did you mean Mel. Incana? "Nana" just means dwarf or small :)

Like the second pic, would make a nice windswept :tu2:

Nice work :)

Bonsai is a cruel and Punishing hobby, I feel like I'm getting somewhere then stand back and look closer only to realize just how far I've missed the mark (miles). Does anyone else get this way or is it just me :?: :palm:

I'm the same. I think it's caused by perfectionistic traits...

I think the trunk on tree one is excellent, you have chosen very well indeed. The foliage will take shape over time, but it looks very promising. May I suggest that since the trunk is wild, the foliage should not be too formal, solid, or geometrical, but a bit wild as well. Spaces, branches waving wildly, things to surprise you, to match the trunk. Just my 2c.

Please keep posting this tree.

Comes with the territory, as your experience grows your eye for detail improves and the clarity with which you view them changes. Dont worry, its a good thing :tu:

It's a good excuse to buy a tonne of cheap nursery stock to practice on.

Trial and error.

First tree is a ficus from a cutting over a few years, the second is a mel raph about a year in training the last three trees are from previous post. I lost almost all my little projects in a recent move so this is more of a goodbye post rather than a progression :shake: There all dead. :tounge:

Moving shouldnt have killed them?
One of the fabulous things about growing bonsai is as you get old and decrepit your trees get old and beautiful

Oh dear, that is a real shame as there are some very good little trees in that lot!

Hope you continue with the hobby as you have shown you can produce some good trees!

Hi

You seem to have a good handle and eye for shohin. Some of these trees have very good futures. Best of luck.
