Mame cascade Ligustrum

Post by hugh grant »

Id like to share this very tiny mame sized Ligustrum (privet) which ive been growing for a number of years. Its surprising how long it can actually take to get something of this size to a mature shape and ramification.

This is brilliant, has it always been in that pot during the process?

So
in 2009 the tree was collected, it grew from the edge of a bank and even though it was small i collected it for its great natural twist in the trunk.

In 2010 it got its first wiring

By 2012 it had filled in quite a bit

The tree developed root rot later on and in 2012 the tree was alowed to grow on to get strong, it lost the lower branch.

2013. After it recovered and was strong again it was pruned back severely to create a much more compact design than the last which i believed was essential to bring out the best in the tree.

From here on it was a matter of refinement and careful selection of branches, regrown many times in order to get the correct balance of growth and ramification.
