Hi ya Steven just killing time, might have watch that is all.
To answer your question, Bonsai today had a series of the 50 best Shohin in Japan. I think numbers 43/44 or round those numbers. There is JBP at 30 inches in a Shohin pot, the comment was because it was IN A SHOHIN pot it qualified.
So yours is Shohin.

Long time without an update

I did a shohin presentation and workshop for Canberra Bonsai Society last weekend and during my talk I repotted the following Kumquat ground layer that I did last year. You can see that post in this thread HERE.
I like the movement in the upper trunk and branches but it never had movement put into the lower trunk when it was young.
The old back is the new front and it now has a much better overall image. The sphagnum moss is to protect the new roots while it recovers. I'll remove all the fruit now that the demo is over and I've photographed it

The shortening/ground layering of the trunk has worked really well. Looks so much better shorter and I love the new direction too what a great little tree.

Yes, great presentation, Steven. Enjoyed the PP explanations (incl. the photo of the Casuarina! ) and the results of the early bending technique. Lovely little shohin - hope you come back and present the follow-up in 2 or 3 years.

I just happened upon this thread. Excellent stuff.

Some of your pots throughout this thread are wonderful. also, I note to photos below of an Olive and Juniper 'Lemon Hilli'. I love the pot of the Olive and I think both trees are great. I't be good to see the Olive when the lower branches are thick enough to be cut back.

Here's a couple that I repotted last night.

First is a Kingsville Box grown in the ground by Ray Nesci for 30 + years. These are notoriously slow growing so having a trunk this fat is pretty rare. This tree has been worked on in workshops with Tony Tickle and earlier this year with Yannick Kiggen.
Next is a Crepe Myrtle originally from Hard1All. Last night I rotated it to show the gap between the trunks and leaned it over slightly more.

Amazing change to the Kingsville Box in 3 years, well done. Impossible to get them down here.
Have you ever hand flowers on the Crepe Myrtle? Once again lovely. Thanks for sharing.
