Finally!!! A pot for my tree.

This Stunning, and i mean stunning, Tokoname pot was for sale at our last Bonsai show in Castlemaine. I was VERY surprised nobody had snapped it up and i did so immediately. I instantly saw my little English elm in it and that came into being today. I have been working on the little E.E for some time now and, at 220mm, qualifies as a bonefide Shohin. The tree is another 4-5 years off yet and i think the combination works very well. I scored another couple and will keep you posted. The pots had been sitting in the previous owners shed since he purchased them in Japan in the 60's-70's? and they have been there ever since. He became unwell and got rid of everything Bonsai through our club so i thank him and am very grateful.

It looks very much like an older Koyo. Black clay will be the tell along with the stamp but the glaze is very much in Koyo's style of this era. Its a really nice shape and probably a little more rare than larger sizes for the time period. As shohin is far more popular now, more pots are being made in this size as a result.

Great find!

If i am i haven't yet been contacted by Castlemaine, but more than happy to come up for a visit. I am pretty flat out with bookings this year but can probably fit you guys in.

Joe

Such a deep pot needs a stumpy solid tree, and such a strong glaze needs a dramatic tree - well matched. Neither are easy to pair up. It's good when karma works with you.

Thanks all, i don't often get chuffed when something comes together but i am in love with this setting. Can't wait till the tree has some more ramification.
