Neglected and overgrown Juniper

I picked up this neglected and overgrown Juniper a few weeks back.
I have cut roughly 50% off allowing sunlight in with the hope of having it back bud in spring.
The aim is to have a nice compact Shohin sized tree.

Give it a good handful of Seamungus and lots of foliage feeding.

Looks like some buds are already popping.

Don't touch the bark.

Feed hard and water.

Seamungus made by Neutrog.
Your crops will just love Seamungus
. . . jam packed full of goodness,
Seamungus is a soil & plant conditioner,
manufactured by composting seaweed,
fish, humic acid and manure.
You should be able to find it at the green shed and probably most nurseries.

Hi Iliya. That's a good looking trunk. I see why you grabbed that one.
Your on the way already with backbudding. The first pic shows a nice bit-a-green
coming from inner curve on trunk :tu: sure looks like it on my screen.
cheers
Bob

Hi iliya,
As shibui has mentioned. I use so much I get it in 40Kg bags. I notice Bunnings has it in large bags now, so if you use a lot that is most probably the most economical way to buy it. The thing I really like about it is that you can use it on your natives as well as exotics.

....and I can't wit to see the continued progression! I think this has wonderful potential. Good luck and thanks for the update Iliya.

As an aside, early in this thread I saw some comments around finding it difficult to back bud; is this a Sargent Juniper aka Shimpaku. If so, don't these readily bud back as your newest photo's show? I only ask to check my understanding. I have a Shimpaku that I am making into a semi-cascade and I am of the understanding that trimming and feeding will encourage new growth. That said, I understand that trees like my Boulevard Cypress and Cedrus Deodora are much harder to encourage buds on old wood. Is my understanding correct?
