Thanks neli and ken. Have read a few different things (e.g. defoliate all but growing tips, then cut back) but will run with your advice. Thanks again.

Re: [Ces] Buxus harlandii
another update. Cut back all branches now and will be working toward ramification and refinement. I have a nice Janet Selby pot picked out for it in march.
Appreciate any and all directions and suggestions... I'll be letting the lower branches extend and keeping the top in check.
Cheers,
Ces.

I have one of them, very small though. Nearly died at one time, being brought up from the nurseries in Windsor, to the colder temperate region. I am treating it like a ficus too. Good luck anyway.

Re: [Ces] Buxus harlandii
Thanks Neli and Bunny. Bit disappointed i didnt get to dress it up but I was very time poor for the last few weeks. Now that I am peering out the window of my hotel in Shinjuku, Tokyo getting ready to hit the streets again, I'm not so sad.
Saw more quality pine bonsai peering out of the train from the airport than I've seen in my life!!!!
Cant wait to get to a nursery... Feels a bit dirty peering into peoples back yards and balcony's from the window of a train
Once again, good luck to all the entrants. Look forward to all the final pics. Hundreds more expected from you, Neli if I remember correctly
Cheers,
Ces.

One of the fabulous things about growing bonsai is as you get old and decrepit your trees get old and beautiful

Re: [Ces] Buxus harlandii
i saw this buxus on youtube a while ago and i was very inspired by the exposed roots.
i've rarely seen the exposed roots style done well, and i'm considering it for a future tree.
