Thanks TimS, Boics & boom64 for your enthusiasm,
Layers are always a gamble so it feels good when it pays off! Of course, I’ll believe it’s all good when I pull it apart and see it’s all good. At the moment I’m on a mission to find something for the “native” comp. Easier said than done but I’m enjoying the challenge, and the excuse to visit nurseries on my holiday with the premise : “just in case”!
Good times! :tu:

Not a bad day today considering it's Winter, so thought it was a good chance to get out and have a look at the roots on this layer ... I've talked it up so ...

I cut the stump back and gave the roots a bit of a trim, then it's repot time.

The pot I put it in seemed kinda appropriate. It was my prize for getting a place in this comp. It was for a different tree but nevertheless I liked the sentiment behind putting a tree from the competition in a prize from the competition.

R3 - both your Chinese Elm threads are excellent. I think this little tree is a beauty ... the journey has been really interesting to learn from and the outcome is fantastic - I reckon anyway! There’s just something wonderfully realistic about this little tree. Top stuff. And the art on little pot suits the tree.

And ... funny ... I just looked and the last time I posted to this thread I was drinking a cc and dry ... it appears there’s a trend ... this time of find myself in an airport after numerous loooong days of domestic work-related travel ... this time a white wine is the poison of choice ... and winding down by reading AusBonsai.

Bonsai teaches me patience.

Thanks all for the positive feedback. I'm much happier with how this is shaping up than what I was 12 months ago ... one year is a long time in bonsai!
