[Steven] Acer buergerianum group
• Species name : Acer buergerianum
• Original height of stock : 1340mm
• Obtained : Shibui Bonsai
• Cost of stock : $50 for about 100 seedlings so about $2.50 for these 5
These 5 are ones that I threaded through a metal plate after purchasing them from Shibui. No wire was put onto the trunks!!

Re: [Steven] Acer buergerianum group
This one had shot back nicely and I was preparing to select new leaders and branches but a possum has beaten me to it.
I have over 100 Maples and it only ate this one! WHY

Re: [Steven] Acer buergerianum group
I didn't know possums would eat tridents! (Or other trees, for that matter.)
What can you do to stop it happening again??

Re: [Steven] Acer buergerianum group
Not a lot you can do with them other than spray your plants with chilly or wasabi! The have wreaked havoc with my Maple, both trident and Japanese and my apple tree!

Re: [Steven] Acer buergerianum group
I have non stop trouble with these guys, they seem to know the exact tree that will suffer the most and hone in on it.
Trident maple, pines and my Dawn Redwood seem to be their favourites of mine.

Wow, thanks guys, I had no idea....they've only ever eaten my pawpaws up til now. I guess as long as there are pawpaws they'll steer clear of my bonsais?

Re: [Steven] Acer buergerianum group
Since the possum damage, one of the trunks (far left) hasn't shot and new growth
