Look forward to seeing what you do with this one. Have been looking for one of these since seeing specimen growing in Royal Botanic Garden Melbourne. Stunning bark.

Love water gums.
I think they are a "Must have" tree for every Aussie Bonsai artist.

They are such a great tree, but a little on the slow side. Be interesting to see where You can get this in 18 months Squizz

Can definitely be on the slow side... I have a few in the ground that seem to be growing ok but one in particular has done little in a year....agree though that they are good material.

It does look like you have picked some good material though. So could be on a winner if it can ramify a bit.

Ok.

Not a great deal has changed here so far. That is the disadvantage of working with natives. I am going to repot these in the next 6 weeks I would say.

I was hoping for the roots a bit higher for a twin trunks so I guess I have two choices now. Layer or change of tree design. Decisions decisions!

Hi Squizzy, I find that these guys can sulk for months if you repot them at the wrong time. I have had good results if I do them now, but I am much further north than you.
Cheers,
Symon

Hi symon

Thanks for the advice. I am in Sydney but on the coast. I would imagine in 6 weeks or so we will be about level with Coffs Harbour so fingers crossed.

It getting a haircut at the same time so I'd say it's an ambitious 18 month plan as the guys have said.

This is tree number 3 of the aquaponics experiment

It's into zeolite and into the system. I am somewhat confident this could solve the issue of slow growing tristaniopsis but who knows. Time will tell

So as you can see this is about five weeks after re pot. It was quite a heavy root prune also. The new shoots are everywhere. Fingers crossed it powers on from here. Have seen some healthy white roots at the edge of the pot so all is looking promising.

Looks like it will power through. Did you end up planting the off cuts? I stuck a few off cuts in the ground (about finger thick) a couple of months ago and they seem to have taken.

Hi matlea

I didn't plant any cuttings. I have to put a stop to more plants. It's getting out of control at my place. Didn't think they would be so successful so might have to try some.

Here is an update a few weeks on. Growth is looking strong and quick????

I had an aquaponics system last year for veggies, & all my ghost gum tomato stakes took root & started growing. It was a constant flood system with a couple of fish but mostly Seasol supplemented.
