Hi Temps and hot days

Australian conditions vary from one extreme to another. What do you do and when do you do it?

Far out !!!

I think I lost a needle juniper :crybye: They usually take a while to show that they are going but this one did it over night. Well watered but just couldn't take the heat :palm:
Very sad

Hope everyone is vigilant :tu2:

Hi Fat Ming - check that it isn't mites. They can turn a juniper grey over night.

Always spray your junis with coled water over the foliage in hot weather. Mites dont like it !

Speaking of hot. It just hit 45 degrees here at the Collection.

This summer we have been watering three times a day! Twenty years ago when I started bonsai I don't think I ever had to water more than once per day and never put up shade cloth. It is much better now our rainy season has started.

All the best to those still experiencing scorchers!

Hi Grant - I bought one yesterday. We are all huddled around it. Just checked the temp in the sun (which is where the trees are sitting) 48 degrees. :crikey:

It was 43 yesterday and 42 today, with 44 forecast for tomorrow in my neck of the woods. Two really great tree's I collected in the past 2 weeks I'm pretty sure are in bonsai heaven despite my best efforts. And about a third of my trees are looking not great at all. Apart from watering 4 times a day and shade clothing everything, I don't know what else I can do :( everything will be getting Seasol on Saturday! How are everyone else's trees doing?

Cheers!

Well . Bonsaing in the snowy mountains has now become an extreme sport .me and hughie came to blows this afternoon I think he came out best . Managed too put a lot of my trees under shelter but the general grow on stock copped it . The veggie garden is no more . It hailed for about hour :o

:crikey: Sno good you were home to at least grab the most precious

It's all topsy tervy - Darwin was the coolest capital in Aus today :lost:

Makeshift shade sail and market umbrella set up here, just hope the wind doesn't tear it down tonight.

And I think 'they' (power suppliers with Vic government permission) are getting sneaky with the new smart meters - normally a blackout would hit everyone in a suburb right, but here I've got power, but all my neighbours are blacked out :lost: and looking down the street about one in five has power :lost: absolutely ridiculous considering the price we all now pay for electricity :shake:  It started about 8pm and apparently won't be back on till 4am. I can understand an hour or even two, but 6 or more with no legitimate fault that's just  We don't have ac but now feel sorry for those who can't even run a fan tonight.

Stay  and stay safe everyone :fc:
Cheers, Ryan

Alpine
Mate its not that cooler at my place either. the garden is paying a heavy toll. i throw out 90000L on it last night and proberly the same again tonight. I have a little larch roasted but the larger one has done ok so far. The full extent of damage caused by this heatwave wont be known till next week. The bonsais are mostly shaded and auto sprinklers dumped 5000L on them daily.
No reprive here till sunday. At least melbourne is dropping 20 degrees on sat we are only dropping 10 at most :o :shake: Russia is looking better and better

I must admit that you guys are getting some extremes in the heat gauges even in parts of WA are cooler than you.

We are however, well I am equipped to weather it ( scuse the pun) shade cloth goes up at first high temp, water troughs around the garden.

I have found that even a baby's bath at your front door when the breeze blows over it, it will cool the house by 5 degrees.
This worked for us in Wittenoom many moons ago,Coolgardie cooler effect it works in the garden to.

Good luck Cheers Pup
