Hi Temps and hot days

Australian conditions vary from one extreme to another. What do you do and when do you do it?

Hi! :gday:

Have nearly lost a Dwarf Fuchsia... :( Leaves are withered but I think tree and small branches are still ok. There is still one or two flowers that made it. What can I do to help revive it? I've brought it inside and kept the soil moist. Seasol? Trim to get rid of withered leaves, etc? Funnily enough, all my other bonsai are ok, even the maples. Yep, I'm in Melbourne and most of them are under two overhanging creepers on the fence line so get plenty of shade, except for this one spot where my fuchsia got fried. :(

Alpine, I feel for you, and worst is the over night temps don't drop either so no relief. We have blocked off the rest of the house and are sleeping in the lounge room. I figure better having 1 comfortable room than an averagely uncomfortable house. I hate to think what the temp is in the bedroom now, I keep telling my wife she's hot but apparently it's not funny anymore :palm: Local shopping centre got evacuated, a fire apparently.
I set a few more hoses and sprays on timers and am watering flat out, All my plants get watered at 6am, 11:30am, 4pm, 8pm, 1:30am. I'm watering at night cause it's still a "low" of 29 degrees over night. I thought I'd lost a couple repotted trees but they seem to be hanging on. The big juni I collected last week is still green, just. It gets sprayed with seasol regularly on the foliage and watered the same as the rest for now.
All my trees are under sheets as I mentioned earlier. Some sun gets on the plants through out the day as it moves across the sky but not for very long. I think it might have saved them. I have 2 azaleas collected last week looking average but they got well and truly cooked before I realized.
So I'm happy with how every thing handling the heat.
Not looking forward to my water and power bill though.
Hope this cool change comes quickly tomorrow and hope you all get it.

Yep its out of control.
I'm getting away with 2 to 3 waters pet day.
Bulk majority of my bonsai / potensai are holding up.
Garden is struggling big time though.

24 hours and cool change will be with most of us.

Shame no rain of any significance.
One of the fabulous things about growing bonsai is as you get old and decrepit your trees get old and beautiful

About 41 degrees at the collection today but the misting fan kept the volunteers cool. No sweat.

Worked outside on a big Radiata all day.

Place the pot in a tray of water to try to keep it cool and damp.

Alpine

The creek is drying fast! i say ive got 2 weeks left if im lucky than ill cut to my dragline. Its still at 100% and been 100metres long, 10metres wide and 18 feet deep i should be ok. ill fill all my water tanks back up tonight to bring to 100%. If we nudge 40 tomorrow it will be the longest spell of about 40 in my area for over 50 years :( . 29-34 next week seems cold now.
Having that water is a god send for sure.

Hi Matthew , a good water supply you have out there thats for sure .Its been another stinker here today with hot winds to make things worse just scorching the foliage the heat didn't get too . I'll count the cost next week no doubt, plenty of re-designing will be needed on a lot of material .

Cheers Alpine.

Many Thanks for the reply Ken. Will do. Fortunately the cool change has now come and able to put it back outside again. I really hope it survives. :D

 yeah the cool change has arrived. Went out last night and took the sheets down. Lost two of the large trees I collected a week or so ago. The Juni is struggling. Everything is good.

This is the first time since 1855 when records began that we had 4 consecutive days above 41. Loving this cool change.

Josh.
