Colour change

Australian conditions vary from one extreme to another. What do you do and when do you do it?

Interesting.

Can you be specific about the species in question here?

I've had a thread about my Japanese Maples and Tridents going red but they are still growing to some extent and certainly don't look like normal autumnal colours.
One of the fabulous things about growing bonsai is as you get old and decrepit your trees get old and beautiful

I have tridents that have gone red and yellow and look like they are about to drop their leaves. I think mine is heat stress. Not to worried though, they'll bounce back when their ready.

I remember reading a post here that stress causes colour change.
the leaf burn had partially defoliated my maples during the last chain of hot days here in Melbourne but they are noe bouncing back.

I notice my trees get colour when kept on the dry side. Is it possible that this is the case?

could be heat stress. the maples and zelkova i have on the balcony are still green, but the trident maple, apricot, grape vine, and chinese elm i have in the backyard are showing the change in colour (all in pots as well). the ones in the backyard are thoroughly watered everyday too, but they also a great deal of sun light.
