Re: sydney weather
I think this in an interesting point for us knew kids. Would that be at least 24hrs without water in a very open mix on one of the hottest days of the year?kcpoole wrote:Was away last night and some of my trees did not get watered this morning. they had to wait until I got home @ 4pm.

I'd be interested to hear which plants wilted and/or if any don't make it.
Cheers,
Nigel

Newly Repotted Hibiscus, Figs, Bougainvillea, Lantana
Liquidambar done about 2 months ago was badly wilting badly but has come back fine after watering.
Callistimon and all other natives that have not yet been repotted handled the hot and dry day with aplomb.

Re: sydney weather
I have a small covered section of my yard that is protected from the north and still let's light through, it must be 5-10 degrees cooler.
It was their savior this week!

Re: sydney weather
Elmar, as far as difficult climates go, you are always going to win. The trick for you is to find out how to survive - our techniques are only marginally applicable in your climate. If you are anything like the rest of us, you'll stuff around for a few years before you get the hang of it - let us know how you get on. And grow your own local species - if they survive there in the dirt they've got a better chance of surviving in a pot, compared to soft city-slicker stuff...

Well, I'm looking to improve my chances! Made contact with Sheldon and he's got a mate up here so it might just be the Three Amigos taking on the Hedland weather! Safety in numbers!!
Fingers, wires, branches all crossed!

Re: sydney weather
Cheers ken, I feel like I'm way to protective with my trees. Obviously they like the regular water, but they can suck it up when I cant for a day or a half.kcpoole wrote:Newly Repotted Hibiscus, Figs, Bougainvillea, Lantana
