Finally seeing some autumn colours.
Not much of a tree, but still pretty colours.

Colours are still changing, when will it drop its leaves...

It is a Chinese elm. Sometimes they don't drop leaves until the new ones come out.

Really? I was hoping to do some work on it while it had no leaves, is it worth defoliating?

That's up to you. Lots of leaves to cut
You can still work on it with leaves on - pruning, wiring, repotting, etc. Some leaves will fall off while you work but it does not matter whether they are there or not at this time of year.

It was only so I could see the structure of the tree a bit better.
Might do it anyway, and yes it might take a while haha

Nice color on the trees.

Could I suggest if you were thinking or re-potting the elm a bit later on, I would think that it would look great used in creating a penjing style on a mossy hill using a bonsai forest tray.

I know that some people would just love to own that including me.

It's funny you mention that, I actually purchased this shallow tokoname pot (not quite a tray) with the intentions of planting it on a little mound with moss. But I thought that the pot made the tree look too small. Maybe it's just me? I don't have the dimensions at hand but when I get home I might start a thread for this guy and do some photoshops with the pot.

That's a coincidence great minds think alike.

Try placing the elm as it is in the pot it's in. inside the tray it will give us an idea of the dimensions.
