#%$@ing Possums!

Post by Beano »

Yeah, black net is more attractive and only blocks out 3% more UV than white (in case you can’t be bothered taking it off one day).

Mine is mainly interested in the crabapple blossoms, the trident maple tips, the swamp cypress new growth (all of it, but it has only seemed to notice one of my two swampies). It chewed a new tip off my rainbow eucalyptus too but nothing else off it. Seems to not care about bougainvillea, olives, azalea, gardenia or Chinese elm. I’ve got a cherry just sprouting too which it hasn’t touched but I think it’s a fluke and just hasn’t found it. Lucky too because it’s died back a bit ...

Can’t wait to get my shelves, but they’ll still get to my trees. Will have to tie them to the shelves so they don’t knock them off and break them when they jump. Your bunker looks awesome. Do you keep them in there or pack them up at night?

Hi Beano, I reckon once you get your shelves up maybe look into the electric fencing stuff you get for livestock. Easy to fit and you could make it quite unobtrusive , once they get a zap of that up the butt it'll hopefully deter them
cheers

Yeah, the bunker is working well, my bonsai are much better for it.

Generally I like to "thin out" those in the bunker during the day and swap which ones I take out so they all get moved around pretty regularly. They all go back in at the end of the day to sleep. I have my auto watering setup hooked up to the frame of the bunker, so generally they all get watered in the morning before I come and move them... also it's good for holidays (or if you miss a day or two) etc. and it means I can keep the watering system pretty compact (minimise the number of sprayers/length of hoses). Hopefully when I get around to hooking up the new netting it will look better and be a bit easier to secure at the end of the day with the zips.

I finally have a shelf! Neither of us are skilled carpenters so I’m lucky to get this one, but it’s taken weeks. Now we have a design that works I should be getting more...

Nice shelf Beano . The possums around here would scale that fence as if it was a ladder . Maybe secure the pot down to the shelf untill you work out if it will work . I hope your apple layers are ok .

Those shelves look great but they seem to be popping up like mushrooms. Looks like another one just about to blossom down low. If they keep coming at this rate this rate you'll be swamped by shelves in no time at all.

I have finally got around to upgrading the bunker. I think in general it looks a fair bit neater and it is also easier to access/lock up at night so is saving me time. Very happy with it so far.
Thought I'd post some pics for you guys to check out.

It is nice and better looking. I’ve netted some of mine again, now it likes bougainvilleas all of a sudden. Sprayed chilli garlic spray, but it’s rained so I’ll be back out there tonight to respray

The chilli options were limited and the grocer insisted they were hot while eating one in front of me. I tasted the spray. Not that bad. It is pretty irritating in the nose though! But I think it’s too weak
