Large concave branch cutter - reasonably priced?

Post by Luke308 »

I am looking to purchase a larger concave branch cutter. Most of my tools are Ryuga, and I am very happy with the quality and price. I currently have a couple of 200-205mm concave cutters but they just aren't cutting it :palm: (sorry couldn't resist).

I am unsure of the next size up, however I was thinking it would be somewhere around 300-320mm?

I have searched online (albeit quickly) and not come up with anything under $200.

I'd appreciate any suggestions, links, and recommendations.

Thank you in advance

270mm is more than adequate - if you have bigger branches that that will handle then use a saw. I would just get an ordinary branch cutter and not a concave one - I think it may be difficult to judge how deep it cuts into the trunk.

That Kaneshin No.5 is a great tool. I have loped off some fairly powerful branches with mine. As BF said tho, if they are getting BIG, better to reach for the saw as it is still possible to bend the jaws on a number 5 if yo're not careful.

Having needed a larger branch cutter myself, I've just ordered a 280mm straight edge cutter from ebay...From what I can work out, Tian Bonsai Tools, are of a similar quality to Ryuga. Check them out - they make 3 different qualities ranges in tools, Beginner / Professional / Master - even the master quality stainless is reasonably priced..imo - my 280mm cutter came in at around $80 + postage. Even their S/Steel version comes in under $100AU...
