Zeolite in Melbourne

Post by teejay »

Does anyone in the Melbourne area know where to source zeolite from? I can find Maidenwell but I wouldn't mind giving zeolite a go.

Any clues would be great, cheers. :D
I really do wish they'd hurry up and grow.

tee how ya doin?
DURALITE: 54 old dandenong rd. heatherton: David Frances 95516756.

tee zeolite should be mixed as well a diatamite, not instead. zeolite holds and releases nutrient as the plant needs. diatamite moisture only, it will not hold nutrient.

Awesome Ant, thanks heaps!

So are you saying that you use diatomite with zeolite? I'm having a little trouble understanding exactly what you've written. I wasn't going to mix the two I was going to use both separately mixed with organic, maybe 50/50.
I really do wish they'd hurry up and grow.

My mix is 2/3 Diatomite ( Maidenwell)
and 1/3 Zeolite

Works good for me and use the same mix in everything

that sounds like a good ratio ken! in this case, my new bestty mix will become;

30% medium diatamite, 20% zeolite, 25% orchid pine nuggets mini and 25% coco peat.

till now this mix minus the zeolite ( so 50% diatamite ) has grown the best trees in metropolitan melbourne for years. so it comes highly reccomended. ;)
you do have to be attentive to watering though. DONT be scared to over water this mix. very careful you dont under do it. :D

Ant:
diatamite moisture only, it will not hold nutrient.
It's interesting that you say the above Ant because Sage Horticuture claims:

Maidenwell Diatomite will REDUCE WATER USAGE due to its absorption of water and nutrients.

Are you sure it won't?
I really do wish they'd hurry up and grow.

This is what I was looking for Maidenwell ships this stuff over to America and it is called Dyna-Rok II over there. Has some intresting info like it takes up 150% of it's weight in water and nutrients.

Yep, looks as though diatomite absorbs nutrients to me.

In memory it was from discussions on the phone with Maidenwell a few years ago.

 look on the bright side Ant, now we don't need to buy it. :D

BTW, I called Sage and they've upped the price on their Maidenwell to $21.00 apparently, the good times are a coming to an end. Still a damn sight cheaper than Gardenworld.
I really do wish they'd hurry up and grow.

you can re use zeolite... thats a plus. Also add it to the dishes of water you have plants in, helps filter the water I'm told.
Young and hostile but not stupid.
