Growing pot wtb

Post by toshtony »

Hi guys where do you get the growing plastic pots that aren't that deep from. I have foam boxes, I have pots that I can cut down but would still like to get some proper ones. If anyone here has some for sale and doesn't mind posting pls let me know.
Thanks
Tony

Are you talking about orchid pots ? Do a search and see if that is what you want. Lots of nurseries stock them or you can buy them online.

Um I did a Google search on orchid pots and the images didn't really look right.
Just simple black plastic pots but half the size, if there's are proper name for them and that's it might make it easier to find.

Thanks

Hi Tony,

They are defined called orchid pots as far as I am aware. Are you a member of a club?

Bonsai North West is a club in the western suburbs who stock them for sale to members. They can also be picked up at most club sale days throughout the year. A bit more searching online and you should find them.

Cheers,
Pearcy.

Gardenworld have a good range of different types of pots, including those that I think you are after.

The problem with orchid pots is that they are very fast draining and depending on what you are trying to do with the tree in it (fatten trunk, prepare for transplant into bonsai pot, ramification) robbing the tree of moisture might set you back.

Try Port Pots at Port Macquarie. They have a good range at reasonable price plus postage. Best of luck

Thanks guys! I plan on using them for training just before putting trees into bonsai pots. From stuff I've planted in the ground or stuff in pots I wish to reduce roots before putting in bonsai pots. I've noticed that most pre bonsai plants I've purchased have come in those squata orchid pots and have been much easier fitting into a bonsai pot afterwards especially if it's a round pot.

Save yourself the money by removing soil, cutting down the rim and placing it in the same pot. A dollar saved is a dollar earnt.

been there done that, I prefer to use orchid pots as the cut down pots do not have any strength and just make handling them less easy. you need 2 hands to support larger pots.
