You can get a roll from Bunnings sold as Gutter Guard for fairly cheap.

As far as the mess is concerned I wouldn't know where to suggest in Melbourne. Could I make a suggestion. This is a Ground Layer rather than an Air Layer. I treat Ground Layers differently.
