bonsai wire online

Post by bubba92 »

Hey guys, just wondering where everyone orders their bonsai wire from online?

Also any advice on a good selection of sizes that I'll most likely need would be greatly appreciated as I'm a noob

Are there no bonsai nurseries near where you are/ within reasonable driving distance? I just pick mine up at my local one tbh, never even bothered looking to see if it can be ordered online. Surely Ebay would be the obvious starting point though.

Very true TimS, tbh since the lockdown I always look online first. But considering I’ll be getting trees from bonsai nurseries it would make sense to get it at the same time. Plus what an excuse to get more trees, I was at the nursery to get wire and this was on sale! It’s a steal!!

No there isn't really. I'm part of the bonsai society here, they sell wire at the monthly meetings, but we're not having a meeting until the end of Feb.

I know bonsai ceramics in South Australia sell aluminium wire for a reasonable price.

Anywhere in Melbourne that does 500g for around $20 seems the only way is to order a few online and factor in shipping

I generally get wire (Ali & Copper) from Hugh @ Treemakers | Wire & Supplies. He usually has pretty good selection and does online/delivery

Not sure where he sources from, but it seems slightly stiffer / better holding than the cheapo stuff we used to get of eBay, which is nice as it means I can use slightly thinner wire

Chembuild may or may not have what you are looking for. They took over from Badger wire a year or two ago. I dealt with Badger, but not these guys since the switch, although now they ship from Dandenong which is closer for me. If you're after copper through them (assuming it is the same spec as Badger) you'll need to anneal. Even the stuff that comes with an "annealed" label needs to be annealed for use as bonsai wire. I guess there is annealing and then there is ANNEALING... I didn't order any aluminium but I imagine it is just fine as is.

Thanks for your responses guys, I ended up going with a 500g x 3 rolls for $59. I got 1.5mm, 2.5mm, and 3.mm wires. Hopefully I can get a bit done with that :)
