Riverview Nursery - West Ryde

Post by kcpoole »

Hi all

Acting on a tip from Lynn while she was doing here bit at the Summit last week, I headed off to West Ryde to the "Riverview Nursery" which are closing down

They are on a 5 acre (Or so ) lot with City views, and most trees are gone but there is still MUCH more to see and get. Prices are CHEAP and the lady who runs it is really nice. She does not know when they will finally close but supposes when the trees are gone

I picked up 2 Water gums, the biggest about 4" across the base with LOTS of taper, and another about 1/2 the size.
Also got a Callistimon and a large Buxus.

All for $70.00 the lot

Much too cheap really
Get along and have a look and prepare to spend a good while looking.

Ken

Ps BonsaiFish,, they have some more Buxus too as I know you were looking for some

Nice trees Ken - it was well worth the trip
Was the lady an elderly lady?
If so I wonder if it was Bettty Cuthbert's sister in law

It would have been one of the Cuthbert's. Pity Long Lean Lanky Larry wasn't there... you would have had the plants for $50 - if Madame wasn't in sight. Madame prices higher but the trees looks nice and it is still a damn good price for what you got.

Bonsai enthusiasts have literally plundered the nursery over the past three or four years - I am surprised there is anything left. Probably still some interesting azaleas but they are so desperately root bound that repotting gives one a foretaste of Hell.

Yes the lady that was there woud be early 60's I suppose. They still have large amounts of stock of lots of trees.

Does any one know if "Port Wine Magnolia" are any good as Bonsai? The nursery have quite a fw of them
