It was a beaut day, so much information was shared, and Koji was amazing. Thanks to Vince and Paulette for their hard work too. Steven's interview of Ray Nesci was another highlight. I'm also itching to get home to start planning my air layers after watching RayM doing his demo....all fabulous sharing, thank you so much! Outstanding catering too, overall a wonderful day, topped by amazing bargains with the auctioned trees... What I'd have loved to have done with that large juniper! Oh well.... maybe I'll bring a van down next time. :)

Nice to meet you Steven, Ken, RayM, bonborn, and last but not least, the lovely Dennis, who helped me get back to the train station afterwards.

Apologies to Evan! Thanks for all your work too, Evan!

Great to meet you too Mel.
I love to catch up pwith Ausbonsai members in person when the opportunities arise.

I have not long got how from an excellent day at the workshop with Koji and still awed by the skill of these professional artists in the way they can analyse a tree in such a short time, adn then come up with an excellent design :worship: :worship:

All the photos from today uploaded to the school website here

enjoy

That was one of the trees donated to the school by spingyclub as per this thread here
viewtopic.php?f=102&t=24127&start=0

Used as a workshop tree so lots on school members can learn from it. The plan will be to work it over the next year and auction at the School show next yer once the bends and Styling set.

Note the branches all the left will be jinned. Koji advised to leave them with foliage now so they grow more and thicken up, and once ready to pot up and display, Cut back and Jin them then.

Is there anything hiding under the raffia that we can't see or are those curves just held by the guy-wires? I seem to recall reading somewhere (here?) that extra reinforcing could be added between layers of raffia to help with the bending.

Not just school members learning from it :) Any chance to see the further work as it happens? It would make another great progression.

Hi Terry.
No other reinforcing as Koji thought not necessary on this one. Just the Guy wires though We did discuss it.

I will put his one up as a progression thread on it own to document it properly

That is a great photo of Koji and Ray, for me it sums up what Bonsai is about in that one pic.

Great photos Kenneth and thank you for sharing mate

Did you not raffia, then wire and raffia again?
