RBS is holding an exhibition of Australian Natives as Bonsai in recognition of World Bonsai Day. The show is on in Capalaba, Brisbane on May 10

The annual World Bonsai Day, was created by the World Bonsai Friendship Federation (WBFF) to honour the memory of Mr Saburo Kato, an influential bonsai master, who believed that bonsai has the power to unite people by acting as a bridge to international friendship and peace.

Great pic's , thanks for taking the time to put them up. Nice trees indeed. I love the fact that Australians can now put up displays as good as this one. Certainly proves, I believe, that we are amongst the best at what we do.

In the last decade the quality of trees, and their presentation,around Australia have improved markedly. This is no exception.

It was a good show with a good variety of quality trees.

When I first walked into the room with my lilly pilly I knew the best place to put it was just in front of the folding wall panels with that great textured grey colouring.

It's in one of my pots, 500mm long bowed wall rectangular, in a satin teal glaze which I made for the tree. I think now its maybe just a tiny bit long but it's close enough.
I was also keen to get it displayed higher. I think having our trees on tables at 700 to 750mm means we look down on them not into them.
Anyway so I made the display table too, to get it up higher. It was interesting watching and speaking to visitors, who also really enjoyed the experience of connecting with the tree at a more personal level. The top of the stand ended up at about 1050mm off the floor; just right for so many trees of all sizes.

I was pipped at the post by one vote for the visitors choice vote. The winning tree was the Clerodendrom. Very nice it was too:

The Clero is nice and shows that a very pleasant tree can still be achieved with what looks like a very straight initial trunk section and v-cut?
Both features that might be viewed as flaws to potential Bonsai stock?

I may be wrong and the photo's deceiving me but it looks like an angle plant, v-cut and some very nice work to turn what I envisage to be widely accepted as ordinary stock into a wonderful specimen.

I think your Lilly Pilly looks an absolute treat and the pot tree combination is impeccable.
Size looks perfect to me.

Your Benji looks very elegant as well..
